About the IELTS

International English Language Testing System — the landscape

The IELTS — International English Language Testing System — is the world's most accepted English-language test, recognised by 11,500+ universities, immigration authorities and professional bodies across 140+ countries. For Nepali students, IELTS is the default test for Australia, the UK, New Zealand, Canada (alongside CELPIP), and increasingly the US.

There are two test types: IELTS Academic (for university and skilled-migration purposes) and IELTS General Training (for work visas, secondary school admission, and immigration to Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK). Both share Listening and Speaking modules; Reading and Writing differ. AECS teaches both formats and matches you to the one your target requires.

IELTS is reported on a 1.0–9.0 band scale in 0.5 increments. Most undergraduate programs ask for 6.0–6.5; postgraduate programs typically 6.5–7.0; visa and migration thresholds run 6.0–7.0 depending on country. A diagnostic mock in your first week tells you honestly how many weeks of prep stand between you and your target band.

Sections, timing, scoring

Four sections, ~2 hours 45 minutes total. Listening, Reading and Writing run back-to-back; Speaking is a separate 11–14-minute face-to-face interview (paper-based) or video call (CD format) on the same or adjacent day.

Why AECS

Why pick AECS for IELTS?

Hand-marked writing every week

Task 1 and Task 2 reviewed against the official descriptors. We mark for Task Achievement, Coherence, Lexical Resource and Grammatical Range — not just "good" or "rewrite".

Speaking recorded for playback

You hear yourself the way the examiner does. Pronunciation, fillers, fluency, lexical range — fixed in review, not in your real exam.

Booking handled end-to-end

Common questions

IELTS — frequent questions

  • Is the IELTS Computer-Delivered (CD) format easier than paper-based?
Neither is "easier" — the test content is identical. CD gives faster results (3–5 days vs. 13 days for paper) and a built-in word counter for writing. Paper-based suits candidates who prefer physical text and handwritten notes. We help you pick during the free counselling.
  • How long is a typical IELTS preparation course at AECS?
Most students sit the exam between 4 and 8 weeks of joining, depending on starting band. We run a diagnostic mock in week 1 to set the timeline honestly — a 5.5 baseline targeting 7.0 typically needs 8–10 weeks; a 6.5 baseline targeting 7.5 usually 4–6.
  • Do you handle the IELTS booking, or do I book myself?
We book on your behalf at British Council or IDP — slot, payment receipt and score send-out. You only confirm passport details and target date. Booking through AECS also unlocks the in-house bundled mock + speaking practice without extra cost.
  • What is the AECS price difference vs. booking direct?
You save Rs. 2,500–3,000 vs. the official desk fee, and the price already includes one full-length mock test, writing reviews and speaking practice. Detailed breakdown on the pricing page.
  • Can I retake IELTS through AECS if I miss my target band?
Yes. We offer discounted re-booking for students who sit again within 60 days, and continued tutoring on the bands you need to lift — usually Writing Task 2 or Speaking Fluency.
  • Do AECS faculty have certified IELTS examiner backgrounds?
Senior faculty hold IDP / British Council examiner training and / or CELTA / DELTA credentials. We don't promise current examiner status (most examiners cannot teach commercially), but the marking framework is the same.
