The Republic of Cyprus is a full EU member state since 2004 — an island nation at the eastern edge of the Mediterranean with a higher education system built on English-medium instruction, EU-recognised degrees, and a lower cost base than the UK or mainland Western Europe. For Nepali students, Cyprus offers the EU-degree-in-English combination without the tuition and living costs of London or Dublin.
The University of Nicosia is the largest and most international university on the island, with Business, Medicine, Computer Science, Law and Engineering programs taught entirely in English and a large South Asian student community. Cyprus University of Technology (public, Limassol) and Frederick University (Nicosia/Limassol) round out the mainstream options, alongside smaller private institutions like European University Cyprus and Neapolis University Pafos.
AECS works exclusively with institutions in the **Republic of Cyprus** — the EU-recognised, internationally accredited south of the island. We do not process applications to universities in the Turkish-administered north (often marketed separately as "North Cyprus"), which sits outside the EU and outside the visa and recognition framework this page describes. This distinction matters and AECS counsellors walk every applicant through it before an offer is accepted.

English-medium EU degrees
Bachelor's and Master's programs at University of Nicosia, Cyprus University of Technology and Frederick University are taught fully in English and carry full EU/EHEA recognition — the same standing as a UK or Irish degree for further study or employer recognition.
Lower cost than the UK or mainland EU
Tuition of EUR 6,000–9,500 / year and living costs of EUR 6,500–9,000 / year make Cyprus one of the more affordable EU study destinations — roughly half the all-in cost of a comparable UK program.

Is "Cyprus" the same as "North Cyprus"? Which one does AECS work with?
No — these are different jurisdictions. The Republic of Cyprus (south) is the EU member state this page describes: EU-recognised degrees, an EU visa framework, and internationally accredited universities. The Turkish-administered north is a separate, internationally unrecognised jurisdiction outside the EU with its own universities and a very different visa and recognition picture. AECS only processes applications to Republic of Cyprus institutions — ask your counsellor directly if you are ever unsure which side an offer is from. -
Is Cyprus really an EU country?
Yes — the Republic of Cyprus has been a full EU member state since 2004. A degree from University of Nicosia, Cyprus University of Technology or another licensed Cypriot institution carries full EU Higher Education Area recognition, on par with a degree from any other EU country. Cyprus is not yet in the Schengen area, so travel to mainland Europe still requires checking entry rules, though EU residency still applies. -
